I have a Bachelor's Degree in Topic X. Am I eligible to apply for the program?

 

We can't answer your question just by the name of the study program. Your eligibility depends on the topics you studied during your degree.

You are evaluated based on your first degree, the topics you learned and your grades. So, please provide your Bachelor's degree and transcript of records, CV, and TOEFL/IELTS –unless you received your first degree entirely in English. We will check your transcript of records concerning your foundations in math, programming, physics, geodesy and space geodesy, GIS, mapping, and statistics.

I will  complete my Bachelor's Degree after the application deadline. Am I eligible to apply for next winter's term?

In case you finish your first degree after the application deadline, we will review your application on a preliminary basis using the documents you provide up to that time. In case of approval , you are required to provide the complete documents before registration at the University of Bonn.

Do you consider GRE scores?

 

We do not consider GRE scores. We take into account your first degree and the approval of English skills, as given in the requirements.

Is there a minimum requirement for obtaining admission for the Master's program?

 

No, there is not. Of course, you should have passed your courses and you will be evaluated based on your first degree and the topics you studied.

Do I need to have my application documents certified?


Please send us certified or authenticated documents or translations.

Do I need English certificates?

 

If you got your first degree entirely in English you do not have to submit language certificates. Please provide an official document, which proves the language of instruction, e.g., diploma supplement or exam regulations. Specifically, native English speakers, German, Swiss or Austrian citizens with Abitur/Matura do not have to submit language certificates. All other applicants should provide proof of their English skills by TOEFL or IELTS. Please check the requirements for additional information.

Do I need to provide German certificates?

 

No, the program is taught entirely in English. However, we do recommend you attend German classes, which are provided by the International Office at the University of Bonn.

When will the application process start?

  
For non-EU citizens it will start on 1. January, for EU citizens begin of application is 15. May.

We will check your application as soon as we receive it and we will make every effort to announce our decision as soon as possible. Please note the program will begin in Oct 2017.

Do I need to provide a Statement of Purpose and Letter of Recommendation?


No. You are evaluated based on your first degree, the topics you studied and your grades. So please provide your Bachelor's degree and transcript of records, CV, and TOEFL/IELTS –unless you received your first degree entirely in English.

Do I need to send my documents by postal mail?


No, you must not send your documents by postal mail. We use an online-application procedure, thus everything you need to provide are digital copies of your documents, which reduces your effort.

I applied online. What should I do next ?

We receive your application through the online application platform and your documents will be handed to the admission committee. The review process may take 6 to 8 weeks. You'll be informed about the decision by Email.
Please do not send your documents by postal mail. Please refrain from question about the status of your application by mail. Instead you may check the status of your application by logging into your application account.

What is the cost of living in Germany?


Costs of living vary between 600 and 1000 EUR per month, depending on your standard of living. Housing in student dormitories/apartments is available to a limited extent in Bonn for approximately 250 to 350 EUR. Private accommodations are generally more expensive.

Based on need and availability, student assistant positions are offered through the institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation.

What post-degree career options will I have?


The Master's program provides an entry qualification for PhD programs, so you might apply for a PhD/research position after finishing the program. Depending on the main profile you chose, further opportunities are available in research and development (commercial or academic), companies related to urban development, space agencies, software development, and more.
